Tamsui District
Traditional Chinese淡水

Tamsui District (淡水區, formerly known as Danshui District) is a port in New Taipei City of northern Taiwan (ROC). It is named after the Tamsui River which means "fresh water" River. The town is popular as a site for viewing the sun set into the  Strait of Taiwan. Though modest in size (population 130,105), the district is the home to three universities (Aletheia University, Tamkang University, and St. John's University) and it has a major role in Taiwanese culture.
